Job Description
The Department of Pharmacology at Case Western Reserve University (https://case.edu/medicine/pharmacology/ ) invites applications for a non-tenure track Assistant Professor position. Qualified individuals should have a PhD and/or MD (or equivalent advanced degree), at least 3 years of postdoctoral/research scholar experience, and a strong record of productivity in high profile journals. All candidates should have expertise in X-ray crystallography and membrane protein purification from both bacterial and mammalian systems. Candidates should also have specific expertise in high-throughput and high-resolution approaches to structure determination of membrane proteins and/or bacterial ribosomes using cryo-electron microscopy and 2D crystals. Candidates should also have experience in performing molecular dynamics simulations to facilitate understanding of the interaction of drugs with macromolecules. Candidates well-versed in the mechanisms of resistance in bacteria will be considered strong.
The individuals chosen for this position will be encouraged to develop an extramurally funded research program. Successful candidates will be expected to interact closely with current faculty within the Department in the development of Cryo-EM methods and biophysical methods (such as single molecular FRET and isothermal titration chemistry). The candidate is also expected to participate and teach in the training programs and to participate in the service functions of the department. Prospective candidates need to be committed to working with a diverse body of faculty, staff and students. A demonstrated ability to supervise technical staff is also highly desirable.
Current areas of research expertise within the Department include Structural Biology, Cancer Biology, and Visual Sciences. Case Western Reserve University has an outstanding infrastructure for biomedical research including recently renovated animal facilities and core facilities supporting state-of-the-art methodologies in structural biology. Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine has committed significant resources to the Department of Pharmacology.
